Lynn Rosen's "Progress in Flying"
As part of the Ensemble Studio Theatre's annual, "Octoberfest," Joel will be reading the EST/Sloan Project Commissioned, "Progress in Flying." This is a project Joel has been involved with for a number of years, and it's something he's very excited about. It's a terrific piece. If you're in NYC this week, come check it out!
In a defunct steel town on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan, Lois and her mother grapple with a father gone AWOL, the legacy of an aviator who flew in their backyard a hundred years before, and a talent contest that must be won. A play about losers, winners, and those in between.

Joel will be appearing in two separate staged readings written by the fantastic Sung Rno.
On Tuesday, October 6, he will read, "Happy," which is being done at New Dramatists, 424 W. 44th Street, New York City, at 7pm.
On Friday, October 9, there will be a reading of Sung's "Infinitude" at the Theatre for a New City: 155 First Avenue (at 10th Street) in New York. "Infinitude" is part of the National Asian American Theatre Festival. The nominal $5.00 fee will go towards Asian flood and earthquake relief.

The National Asian American Theatre Company is throwing a benefit featuring a reading of the Terrence McNally play, "Love! Valour! Compassion!" at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York City. "Dawn's Light"
Gordon Hirabayashi is a Japanese American sociologist who made a courageous stand during the internment of all Japanese Americans during World War II. His remarkable story is the focus of Jeanne Sakata's stage play, "Dawn's Light," a one man show. Joel will be working on this piece this August as part of New York Theatre Workshop's summer residency at Dartmouth College.

"King Lear" at the Public
Joel played the role of Cornwall in a recent workshop of the Shakespeare tragedy for the Public Theatre in New York City. Directed by James Lapine, the play featured Kevin Kline as King Lear. A full production of the play is tentatively scheduled for the Public's upcoming season.
